Fundamentals

Topic Map Designer is not intended to be a full environment to create topic maps. The development was part of my diploma thesis

The program supports only ISO 13250. But you can export a topic map in the new XTM 1.0 format.

To add topics and associations choose "Insert/Fast..." from the main menu. In the upcoming dialog box use "[topicname]" to insert a topic and "{assocname}" to insert an association.

In the Treeview at the left side you can find all topics and associations. By selecting an item from the treeview all information about the topic (or associations) is shown at the right form. All changes are immediately reflected in the treeview. Use the buttons "new" and "delete" to add and delete topicnames and occurrences. Doubleclick at the list to change the specified item.

To change the topic type, rightclick on the list. For adding a topictype drag a topic-item from treeview and drop it at the typelist.

Designer

To create an association role choose the designer view. Use drag and drop to add topics and associations to the designer view.

Topics are represented by red squares and associations by blue triangles. Topics and associations you don't need anymore are removed from designer view by selecting and pressing the "delete"-key. They are not removed from topic map!

To create an association role drag a topic (red square) and drop it on an association (blue triangle). A dialog is displayed and you can input additional data.

Alternativly you can also use the association view.

Browser

Here you can browse websites and so on. If you want to add an occurrence to a topic the last visited URL is automatically suggested as occurrence-locator.

Viewer

To display the topic map graph choose "View/Graph" from main menue. It won't work if you only click the tab on the right bottom from the main window. The viewer now supports multiple topic types. A topic is displayed in the graph section of the first topic type. If you select a topic, all links (i.e. associations with other topics, the other topic types) are displayed.

You can choose a topic from the tree view. The hyperviewer component is searching for the selected topic and displays it at the center (it is also colored yellow).

Here are some key's listed you can use to navigate in the hyperviewer component.
